The Treaty Of Versailles (Ended WWI)

Explain how the Treaty of Versailles affected Germany at the end of WW I. What were some of the rules of the treaty. Do you think the treaty was fair? Why?Some historians say that the Treaty of Versailles led to the rise of Fascism and Adolph Hitler. Why do you think historians say this?

During WWI there was a lot of grievance and devastation to other countries and especially to Germanny. Approxiamately 10,000,00 soldiers and troops around the world had passed away according to WWI. The Allies had wanted a scapegoat so they made germany pay for the damage and cost of all destruction that was done due to the war. So they passed a treaty which stated that germany was held responsible and accountable to fix damages of WWI. Take full responsibility for the war and damages, pay for the damages to city's and casualties in Populations, surrender most of there colonies, thereby creating Poland, limited military Air units,Tanks and Submarines,Prohibition of Poison Gas and Weapons, and Limited solders up to 100,000 Troops. This treaty was the Treaty Of Versailles. The treaty stated that Germany ws fully responsible in starting the war. But it really wasn't all fully only Germany's fault it was all the countries that had fought during WWI were definitely responsible as well. Some people say that Germany was not responsible for WWI. After all, it started when a Serbian shot an Austrian. Some Germans had also believed that Germany had been made a scapegoat, forcing it to take the blame for the entire war.The treaty also said that Germany would have to pay for all of the damage done to other countries. Germany’s size was reduced by 12.5%, resulting in a decrease in its population of 6,500,000. When the other countries took possession of German land, the people in it did not move. This made them "belong" to the countries that took over that land.
I also think the Treaty and facism brought up Hitler because Germany wanted to stay strong despite defeat and they needed a strong dictator to help the rise with the fallen.Adolf Hitler, a German, also Outrage with the Treaty. So he went against the rules.Like,Invading Rhineland, and Czechoslovakia. The Germans Joined in to fight for their colonies and Dignity Back. But they crossed the line when they invaded Poland. When that happened, it had marked the start of WWII.

Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

Explain how Mustafa Kemal (aka: Ataturk) modernized Turkey and made it more secular. What changes did he make? Also define secular.

Mustafa Kemal had modernized Turkey and he had made it more less religious(secular). Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was a military hero at the Dardanelles in 1915. He was born in 1881 in Salonica (which is now Greece). Ataturk modernized Turkey by making the new legal system in Turkey that all citizens - men and women, rich and poor - equal before the law. It gave Turkey a firm foundation for a society of justice and equal rights. Successive wars had decimated manpower, agricultural production stood at a low level, and the huge foreign debts. Mustafa also developed a new language for his fellow Turks. It was based on latin script. Atatürk introduced other reforms like: European hats replaced the fez; women stopped wearing the veil; all citizens took surnames; and the Islamic calendar gave way to the Western calendar.

Define: Secular
Not specifically religious; Not bound by the vows of a monastic order; Temporal; something that is worldly or otherwise not based on something

What were some of the things that he did? Explain his philosophy of non-violence; and explain how he used it effectively.

Gandhi helped India to gain independence from Great Britian by using non-violence.Because when ever the Indians never fought back sooner or later the british would realize that they were doing wrong and when headlines in newspapers found out what the british were causing Great Britian would be embarrased and ashamed as well. Gandhi was a man of peace and non-violence, whenever his people would show rage and fight back he would fast and stop eating to make them realize that the way to independence and rights is not violence but peace. His nation of India gain independence because of the strategies he used against the British. He avoided using violence, and this made the British look careless of it's people. Civil disobedience is the refusal to obey and unjust law, which is what Gandhi did. The movie starts off with Gandhi getting thrown out of the train because he would not move to third class. Later in the movie, Gandhi realizes that British laws were being bias against Indians and decides to start a non-violent protest campaign for the rights of all Indians in South Africa.Gandhi declares a hunger strike, saying he will not eat until the fighting stops. The fighting does stop eventually, but the country is divided. It is decided that the northwest area of India, and eastern part of India ( Bangladesh) will become a new country called Pakistan. It is hoped that by encouraging the Muslims to live in a separate country, violence will come yo an end. Gandhi spends his last days trying to bring about peace between both nations. He thereby angers many dissidents on both sides, one of whom finally gets close enough to assassinate him.
